Ignacio and I are hard at work
Ignacio climbed on my back to read over my shoulder and make suggestions as I work. It’s kind of annoying actually — doesn’t he know that it’s rude to peep onto someone’s computer screen?

February 10, 2010 Ignacio looked confused by his birthday cake and then slept through the rest of his party while we ate his goods. Then we took him for a group walk, which he enjoyed.

Here are photos of Nacho that were posted on his rescue organization’s site at http://www.strangestangels.org. How could someone leave a sweet face like this in the streets? After staring at the photos for a few days, I was convinced that someone else would grab him before I got to the adoption event, so I made Jason drive like a maniac to get there asap. I consider these his “baby pics” because they’re the earliest photos I have of him. :)

Meet our new son Ignacio, a baby chihuahua who needed a home. He came to us as Nacho Libre, but we decided his formal name should be Ignacio and his nickname Nacho. He is not yet one year old, and he weighs a little under 8 lbs. Nacho had a rough beginning: he was a stray in Kern County, on the outskirts of Bakersfield. One day, probably out of hunger, he killed a chicken, and animal control took him to the pound where he was placed on the kill list. (His papers say in bold, "Killed chicken.") Elle from the Strangest Angels organization rescued and nursed him back to health. She described his state when she picked him up as “emaciated,” with his ribs sticking out. He looks much better now, though he’s still skinny. Despite his troubles, he is a cuddly little baby with the sweetest eyes. As we get to know him, his personality is coming out — he’s playing with us, asking for belly scratches, kissing our faces. He’s still a bit timid right now as he adjusts to our home, but since I already know he had enough spunk to take on a chicken, I’m sure he is going to be just fine. I found him at http://strangestangels.org and fell in love with his face immediately, and as soon as I met him in person yesterday I knew he was the one we would take home. Nacho doesn’t really replace LeLu, as we will never be able to fill that void, but I’m glad that we are able to provide him with a good home, and he is a great addition to our family. I can’t wait for everyone to meet him in person!
